The Indiana Blues Society will be hosting the annual Indiana Blues Challenge (INBC) at the award winning Slippery Noodle Inn, in Indianapolis, Indiana Sunday October 12th.
This is the information and official entry form for bands and solo / duos that wish to compete. The overall winners will go on to represent the Indiana Blues Society at (the largest gathering of blues musicians in the world) the 31st International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. January 20-24, 2015.
The INBC is open to nine Indiana/regional acts for consideration. If more than nine acts register and an act drops out a backup act will be scheduled provided there is time.
The registration deadline is noon September 28th.
A full registration includes this form, a $30 non-refundable registration fee, (once accepted) act biography, 300 dpi + jpeg photo and Youtube web-link.
No application / registration is considered complete until these items are received by the Indiana Blues Society. We will notify you once accepted.
If you are chosen as the IBS representative, the same performing members of your act must be present to compete at the IBC in Memphis. If in the event of any IBS fundraisers to defer the costs of travel, lodging and meals while competing in the IBC, you must be present and perform to receive a share of funds raised. All funds raised from the fundraiser(s) (minus expenses) by the Indiana Blues Society will be split equally by all participating musicians. This is to include the Youth Showcase Act that may go to the IBC.
The 2015 IBS Youth Showcase act / representative has not been chosen.
Youth – any act that all members are under the age of 21 at the time of the International Blues Challenge "Youth Showcase" January 23, 2015.
The youth act will be appointed by the IBS board. To be considered for the IBS/IBC Youth Showcase representative. Fill out the full registration form, link a 300 dpi + jpeg photo, Youtube web-link and act biography link. Acts that have not been to the IBC will be considered first.

IBC rules and scoring criteria will be followed and can be viewed by visiting www.blues.org/ibc
Any act under the same name / same group of musicians is limited to two consecutive appearances at the IBC and must then sit out at least one year before being eligible to compete again.
There will be 5 categories judged per 20 – 25 minute sets.
- Blues Content
- Talent (The act’s instrumental skills)
- Originality (Original work is encouraged). Cover tunes are allowed but playing the recorded rendition lick for lick is discouraged and will not be looked upon favorably by the judges and will be reflected in the scoring)
- Stage Presence (Putting on a show).
The Indiana Blues Challenge is open to one musician per one act. You can only compete once.
The acts chosen on the local level are the same acts to compete in Memphis. No ringers

By electronic signature, the undersigned guardian(s) hereby attest that she/he is 21 years of age or older, and is the responsible spokesperson for the individuals listed above on this form and identified by real (or stage) names, and herein referred to as The Act.
• The Act must be a blues band/solo or duo
• The undersigned spokesperson attests that each member of The Act will be 21 years of age or older to compete at the Slippery Noodle Inn.
• Has not previously been nominated for a W.C. Handy / BMA award
• Has not already entered the 2014 Indiana Blues Challenge with another act
• Has not competed in two consecutive International Blues Challenges
All monies raised during the INBC and fundraisers arranged by the Indiana Blues Society (minus expenses) will be held by the Indiana Blues Society and distributed to the act leader(s) to be split equally between act members in Memphis.
If for any reason an act chooses to drop out or does not register with the Blues Foundation for the 2015 International Blues Challenge in a timely fashion the runner up will be chosen to represent the Indiana Blues Society. Funds raised by the Indiana Blues Society will then revert back to the Indiana Blues Society to be split by all competing act representatives in the International Blues Challenge.
Note: If a five member act was chosen on the local level there will be a five way split for the representing act in Memphis.
If a five member act was chosen on the local level and three musicians show in Memphis, two shares will be distributed equally by all participating musicians.
It is agreed by the spokesperson that she/he is 21 years of age and each member of The Act does hereby exempt from all liability the Indiana Blues Society, all persons and companies that are directly, or indirectly associated with the Indiana Blues Society Challenge and the Blues Foundation.
It is further agreed by the spokesperson that she/he and each member of The Act accept full responsibility for all taxes and restrictions relating to contest prizes the Act may receive.
Furthermore, each member of The Act hereby agrees that the Indiana Blues Society will retain the right to make use of hers/his/their act name, voices, images and other likeness for the purpose of advertising, publishing, broadcasting the program(s) and the right to edit the program(s) that may contain original individual songs performed or recorded by the by The Act to promote and raise funds for the 2014 and 2015 Indiana Blues Challenge.
In addition, the spokesperson and each member of The Act hereby agree that the Indiana Blues Society will retain total ownership of the Indiana Blues Society program(s) and the rights to license others to use these rights for the purpose of promoting and fundraising for the 2014 and 2015 Indiana Blues Society Blues Challenge and additional IBS fundraisers.
This does not include the copyright or publishing rights of the individual songs performed by The Act, the right of which will be retained by The Act.
The undersigned spokesperson hereby acknowledges that each member of The Act is knowledgeable of and agrees to abide by the terms, conditions and rules herein as set forth by the Indiana Blues Society.

Hope all is well with you! If you’d like to see/hear my country harmonica work, the video of the 2013National Barn Dance ‘review’ show will be broadcast on WFYI TV 20.1 (Indianapolis’ PBS station) on the following dates and times:

The shows from 2011, 2012 and 2013 were released to all the other Indiana PBS stations, but I haven’t heard yet about any planned broadcasts.
For the 2014 State Fair show I will be playing “Salty” Holmes and doing a rendition of his “I want My Mama Song”.
